EKPOMA OKPA ASSOCIATION
United Kingdom and Northern Ireland

His Royal Highness
A. Ehizogie Abumere II

It has been historically accepted that Onogie Ijiebomen who came from Idumebo quarters in Benin, was the founder of Ekpoma and he was the first Onogie of Ekpoma. He settled in the present Equare in about 1463 and in due course, his family and extended family formed the nucleus of the present Equare. Ekpoma is the administrative headquatters of Ekpoma Kingdom.

Ekpoma Kingdom is made up of villages or units which acknowledge the Onogie of Ekpoma as their Supreme Traditional Authority. The Onogie is the uniting link for all the villages/units and are bound together as one territory. The inhabitants of Ekpoma, with a few exceptions, trace their origin to Benin.

The twelve community units that occupy the area referred to as Ekpoma are;

1. Eguare: 2: Emaudo: 3. Emuhi: 4. Idumebo: 5. Ihunmudumu: 6. Illeh: 7. Iruekpen: 8. Uhiele: 9. Ujemen: 10. Ujoelen: 11. Uke: 12. Ukpenu

Since 1463 AD, Ekpoma has been ruled by successive Onogies and their rule has produced peace among other communities in Ishan. As we cannot name them all here for lack of space, it is worthy of note that His Royal Highness, Akhimien II, Macvaulay Aidenogie, 1979, during his era, witnessed phenomenal growth in education, physical infracture and economic development. This era coincide with that of Chief(Prof.) . A. Alli, an illustrous son of Ekpoma and Goivernor of Bendel State (1979-1983)
